WHAT KIND OF LASTING POSITIVE INFLUENCE DO YOU WANT TO HAVE?
Life is one big self-sustaining cycle, which, at its very core, is the seed that can be planted on a team, in the classroom, among friends, or in a family, allowing everyone to share common vision. This vision is not coached; it is found within. The leader inspires a shared vision, so that everyone takes ownership of the vision, and shares the responsibility of executing the vision.
One of the keys to having a lasting positive influence is enabling your followers to create visions of their own that fits into the larger picture. For example, if our team’s vision is winning the championship, one of our goals might be to have very competitive practices. As a leader, we want to enable younger players to set goals and have a visions for themselves. They might see that they need to work on their weak hands SO THAT practices can be more competitive. Their vision might be to provide reliable competition on the field to challenge the upperclassmen. Their vision fits into the larger vision of the team. Now we are talking! The leader never has to demand that others work extra on their weak hands because he has inspired a shared vision and had a lasting positive influence. The young players will know what they need to do to serve the team.
Leading with courage, competence, and character will allow you to have a lasting positive influence on your followers.
“A good life is not defined by what you do, but how you do it. Finish what you started and live like a champion today!”
